Secondary Home Insurance in Everett, WA
There is no better way to explore the outdoors than by jumping on an ATV and hitting the backcountry trails. These vehicles are growing in popularity as manufacturers make them bigger and more powerful. With this popularity, the All-Terrain Vehicle segment has expanded beyond the traditional saddle-seated one- or two-person four-wheeled vehicle. Some of this expansion includes the following vehicle types:
Types of off-road vehicles can include:
- All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs)
- ATVs are four-wheeled vehicles with a saddle seat accommodating one operator and, at most, one passenger. This is traditionally what most people think of when mentioning an off-road vehicle. Recently, manufacturers have increased the horsepower on these vehicles as riders look to push the limits of speed on the trails.
- Side-By-Sides (SxS)
- Side-By-Sides are a fast-growing segment of the ATV industry. These vehicles have bucket seats and allow at least one passenger to sit next to the operator. Some vehicles accommodate four occupants, while others can seat up to six. Many include safety features such as multi-point safety harnesses, roll-over protection structures, traction control, and anti-lock braking systems.
- Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs)
- UTVs generally come in three categories: Utility, Sport, and Sport Utility. Utility UTVs are primarily used to work on farms or job sites and often feature a rear bed and high towing capacity. Sport UTVs are more similar to SxS vehicles and are commonly used for trail riding. Sport Utility UTVs bridge the gap between the two by combining hauling capacity with higher-performance capabilities.
- Sandrails and Dune Buggies
- Sandrails and dune buggies are also commonly discussed within the ATV industry. These vehicles are designed to travel across sandy terrain rather than traditional trails. They share many characteristics with UTVs and SxS vehicles, including passenger seating and similar safety features.
Who Needs ATV Insurance?
Very few states have mandatory ATV insurance laws, but that does not mean insurance should be overlooked. Even if you are not concerned about damage to your own vehicle, there can be significant liability risks associated with operating an ATV, UTV, or SxS. If someone is injured while riding in your vehicle or as a result of your operation of the vehicle, you could expose your personal assets to liability claims if you do not have adequate insurance protection.
Is ATV Insurance Expensive?
Many different factors can play a role in determining the cost of ATV Insurance, including where you live, your driving record, your age and marital status, the type of ATV or UTV you own, whether you own a home, and other rating factors used by the insurance company.
